Dear Circular Economy Community,


The ECESP's Circular Economy Stakeholder Dialogue on 10 April was a great success. It brought together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers and civil society for a discussion on the key EU circular economy policy priorities for the 2024-2029 mandate. The session recordings are available so have a look if you missed anything. This stakeholder dialogue will feed into EU Green Week on 3-5 June, which will include a stakeholder day on 5 June: don't forget to register!


As you’ll know, WCEF2025 will be taking place next week in Brazil under the banner Tropical solutions for sustainable growth. The ECESP will be involved in two accelerator sessions: one will be remote and take the form of an EU Circular Talk exploring biodiversity as a catalyst for circular economy and the other will be in person, looking at innovative leadership and collaborative models for circular transitions – more details below!


Also on the ECESP agenda is another EU Circular Talk. This one will take place on 20 May and examine the One Health concept.


Don't miss the latest LIFE call for proposals: there are €73 million available for circular economy and quality of life projects (details below!).

Registration now open for EU Green Week 2025!

This year, EU Green Week will focus on circular solutions for a competitive EU. On 3-4 June, a series of high-level debates will be opened by Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy. On 5 June, stakeholders will come together to discuss how to unleash the circular economy’s potential to create a competitive and resource-efficient Europe.

EU Green Week will be jointly organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment, the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform and the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative.

The LIFE calls for proposals 2025 have been published!

The EU LIFE Programme has launched its 2025 call for proposals. If you’ve got an idea for conserving nature, protecting the environment, taking climate action or transitioning Europe to clean energy, your project could be in for a share of the €600 million just announced for 2025, €73 million of which is allocated to circular economy and quality of life projects.

Advancing the circular economy in cities: Call for applications for C3's free advisory programmes 

The Circular City Centre - C3 runs two programmes which support cities with the shift to a circular economy: the Circular City Advisory programme and the Circular Project Advisory programme. Applications for the current round are open until 20 June. 

EU Ecolabel: powering ahead! 

The EU Ecolabel is the official European Union voluntary label for environmental excellence. It's doing well, which is good news for businesses and consumers. See the latest facts and figures!

Circular bioeconomy: the Bioregio project's catalogue of bio-based good practices

The ECESP website has a good selection of circular bioeconomy-themed content. This item looks at the Bioregio project's catalogue of bio-based good practices. 

New Leadership for Circularity - a WCEF2025 accelerator session

Featuring Brazilian and international companies, along with insights from the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, the session on 16 May will connect global expertise with local challenges and discuss the role played by businesses in the circular transition. It will provide practical frameworks, tried and tested tools and collaboration opportunities for leaders keen to gain a competitive advantage with circular business models. This session will be in person but it will be recorded.

Horizon Europe info days - Cluster 6 (Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment) 

Are you interested in research & innovation funding opportunities in the areas of food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture and environment? 

Join the Horizon Europe Cluster 6 Information Days on 20-21 May to learn more about the topics of the forthcoming EU Work Programme 2025. 

Circular Wallonia Days 2025

Circular Wallonia Days is a two-day event (21 to 22 May) designed to connect up EU regional ecosystems involved in the value chain of eco-materials for construction. This year, it will focus on extending and improving the lifespan of mineral resources. 

Motagua Investment Forum - Circular Economy 

Motagua Circular Forum aims to be a catalyst for change in the Motagua River Basin, where circular economy, European investment and collaborative governance build bridges towards a sustainable future. Companies from the water and waste management sectors are invited to be part of this initiative and express their interest in participating in the forum on 27-28 May to pitch their solutions in Guatemala.

OKPLAST 2025: International Seminar on Plastics Legislation 

Big changes are coming for the plastics industry: new policies, new requirements, new criteria. This seminar on 27-28 May aims to help industry professionals get to grips with them.

Biodiversity as a Catalyst for Circular Economy: The Role of Biodiversity Credits - a WCEF2025 accelerator session

This online WCEF2025 accelerator session on 15 May is organised by the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment. Experts will discuss how biodiversity credits improve ecosystems, incentivise regeneration, enhance resource efficiency and drive nature-positive outcomes.

ONE health, ONE planet! How can EMAS help healthcare centres improve humans and planet's health?

This webinar on 20 May is organised by Club EMAS. It will introduce the One Health concept and highlight the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health, provide an overview of EMAS in the healthcare sector, and share the experience of EMAS-registered healthcare centres on how they reduced their environmental impact and transformed their activities into more circular processes.

Unlocking value in buildings: developing the business case for building circular

This report from Arup, supported by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation makes a solid business case for building circular, exploring five enabling strategies which showcase how built environment players can unlock robust, long-term value by embracing the circular economy.

Repairing resources: Mapping the scale and value of repair to the circular economy in Flanders

The study by the CE Center maps the magnitude and value associated with repair as a circular strategy in Flanders. It concludes with recommendations to promote a repair culture, focus on textiles, recognise the value of informal repair activities, encourage repair skill acquisition, address gendered patterns and combat the throwaway culture that hinders repair.

The 15 circular steps for cities

This guidance document from the Circular City Centre – C3 outlines why cities should actively engage in and support others in the circular transition and how they can do that through 15 circular steps. The steps are divided into three phases: prepare and plan, facilitate and act, and invest and implement.

Insect Farm Hub: a one-stop shop for learning how to farm black soldier flies

Insect farming is becoming more common, with plenty of people trying their hand at it. Like any other type of farming, however, it takes knowledge – and that is where Insect Farm Hub comes in. It aims to share knowledge about black soldier fly farming.

Stokarti: making use of surplus assets 

Stokarti supports the circular economy by helping businesses sell surplus assets instead of discarding them. Their digital B2B platform connects companies from different industries and countries, making it easier to exchange technical materials and reduce waste. RedGirraffe ESG Horizon: Going circular requires data

RedGirraffe ESG Horizon is a software as a service solution designed for enterprise resource planning. It supports the circular economy by enabling precise tracking and optimisation of Scope 3 emissions across global supply chains.

Additives Sustainability Footprint (ASF) method

ASF is a methodology developed for the sustainability assessment of additive use throughout the lifecycle of PVC articles. It is a replicable, risk-based methodology that integrates different types of quantitative and qualitative knowledge, including environmental and lifecycle process management dimensions. 

HOOP Toolkit: designed to unlock investment in the urban bioeconomy 

The HOOP project has provided Project Development Assistance to eight lighthouse cities and regions, supporting them with the development of large-scale urban circular bioeconomy initiatives focusing on making bio-based products from urban biowaste and wastewater. The partners have developed a suite of open-source tools to help cities and regions launch urban circular bioeconomy projects.

National Circularity Assessment Framework for Buildings

This comprehensive toolkit assists countries with assessing circularity within their building sectors. It provides quantitative and qualitative assessments through a set of indicators and a structured questionnaire, helping to identify gaps and priorities for improving circular material and waste flows, reducing environmental impacts and enhancing economic and social benefits.

Circle Academy: a gamified learning platform to boost the adoption of circular skills

This platform offers a structured approach to learning through engaging modules, including videos, reading materials and interactive exercises. For organisations, leaders can monitor and track their teams' progress and completion rates, ensuring engagement and learning outcomes. Participants can track their progress and scores and earn digital certificates to showcase their knowledge. Free public tracks are also available for individuals looking to upskill.

CEE2ACT: e-learning platform on the (circular) bioeconomy

The CEE2ACT e-learning platform supports (circular) bioeconomy capacity-building in Central and Eastern Europe. It offers four interactive training modules tailored to different audiences. Available in 11 languages, it includes exercises, resources, an Open Forum and expert support to boost knowledge and action.

European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF)

Initiated by the European Investment Bank, the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF) is the first private venture capital impact fund exclusively dedicated to the (circular) bioeconomy. It aims to speed up the shift from a fossil-based to a circular bio-based economy and contribute to achieving the European Green Deal goals to make Europe climate neutral by 2050.
