The conference brought together a wide range of stakeholders, sparking interesting discussions and highlighting both the opportunities and challenges ahead. We firmly believe that achieving a real green transition is only possible through collaboration and collective action.

HOOP Project Webinar: Evaluating and improving circular bioeconomy in cities and regions

The HOOP project aims to promote circular bioeconomy innovation by assisting eight Lighthouses in implementing innovative circular processes. The webinar on 21 May will discuss tools for tracking progress and addressing legal, financial and technical barriers, with a view to enabling significant investments in biowaste and wastewater valorisation technologies.

HOOP Project Webinar: Developing urban circular bioeconomy projects

Another HOOP project webinar on 23 May will discuss lessons learned from these projects and present tools to empower financial investments in the circular bioeconomy. The project aims to unlock significant investments in state-of-the-art biowaste and wastewater valorisation technologies.

Surfing green policies: opportunities for sustainable businesses

The European Environmental Bureau and the European Consumer Organization are hosting a webinar on 23 May to discuss the EU Green Deal's implications for businesses. This includes key policy initiatives such as the Green Claims Directive, the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

The International Cradle to Cradle Congress will be back in Berlin in 2025!

The Cradle to Cradle Congress returns for the ninth time, inviting 1000 participants to the International Cradle to Cradle Congress C2CC25 at the Technische Universität in Berlin. The event will feature panel discussions, keynote speeches, and networking opportunities. Speakers include high-profile figures from business, politics, science, and industry sectors. Early bird tickets are available until June 30, 2024.

How to advance the circular behaviours that really matter

The ECESP Leadership Group on Citizen Engagement and Circular Behaviour hosted an #EUCircularTalks event on 8 May to discuss solutions to the inevitable challenges which arise in the shift to a circular economy. They stressed the importance of changing patterns of consumption and lifestyles, as well as the critical mistakes and success factors when it comes to urging European consumers to be more circular. Towards a biodiversity-inclusive and climate-friendly circular economy

The report by ECESP's Leadership Group on Biodiversity and Climate highlights the importance of biodiversity loss in society and business. Circular Flanders 2023: analysis, collaboration, action!

A critical review of the Circular Flanders partnership was conducted in 2023, focusing on its achievements, significant changes and potential improvements. The report looks at the partnership's projects and initiatives, highlighting its role in promoting the circular economy and the potential for further growth.

Circular Cities Declaration Report 2024

The Circular Cities Declaration's signatories, 54 European cities and regions, have submitted a Progress Report detailing their progress towards a circular economy. The report highlights the challenges and the importance of measuring progress and regenerating nature. The report will inform policies and inspire cities.

Circular Economy Joint Declaration 2024

The European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform is advocating for the Green Deal and the circular economy to be a primary focus for the next Commission and European Parliament. They believe that transitioning to a circular economy could help address environmental challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss. You can read the declaration here!

BIOBUILD: bio-based solutions to bolster the energy efficiency of buildings

BIOBUILD is a Horizon Europe project aiming to enhance energy efficiency in buildings by replacing fossil-based materials with bio-based, non-toxic alternatives. The project explores advanced insulation techniques, including sustainable lightweight and recyclable materials, to reduce heat loss and enhance thermal performance.

BUILD-LIMONENE: making construction materials from industrial CO2 emissions and citrus peels

The BUILD-LIMONENE initiative aims to create sustainable construction materials using carbon dioxide from the Valencian Community and citrus sector waste. The project, funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency and the European Union, aims to develop biodegradable additives and materials with a lower carbon footprint, providing a viable alternative to fossil-based materials.

JC-Electronics: a global actor in refurbished industrial electronics

JC-Electronics offers new, refurbished, and repaired products, contributing to the circular economy and reducing carbon footprint. Established in 2006, it has 300 employees, a stock of over 300,000 products, and branches in the Netherlands, UK, and US. The company's "Electronics that have worked can work again" philosophy has earned them the RecQ mark from DEKRA and Rcube.

Sustainable Estimatics: enabling insurers to track the emissions produced by car insurance claims

Solera, a European leader in vehicle lifecycle management, has launched Sustainable Estimatics, a carbon tracking tool for the insurance industry. The tool quantifies and mitigates CO2e emissions from the entire car insurance claims process, providing insights for carbon footprint reduction and comparing repair versus replacement.

Circular updates from the European Commission  

Online information session on the new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation

The European Commission is set to hold an online information session on 22 May to discuss the new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which aims to promote environmentally sustainable and circular products. The session will also address the Digital Product Passport, which was originally scheduled for 11 June. More details will be published soon.

EU Green Week 2024

EU Green Week 2024, organized by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Environment, aims to promote European environmental policy and water resilience. The conference "Towards a water resilient Europe" will take place in Brussels on May 29-30, and the "EU Green Week Partner Events" will be held between 29 May and 1 September around Europe focusing on water resilience and circularity.
