October 2024
Dear Circular Economy Community,
Ms von der Leyen, re-appointed President of the European Commission, has announced her proposal for the new Commission. Jessika Roswall, the Swedish Minister for EU Affairs, has been nominated as the new Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy. Wopke Hoekstra, the current Dutch Commissioner for Climate Action, has been designated as the Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero, and Clean Growth. Clearly, all things circular are indeed high on the political agenda. Competitiveness is the overarching priority of the new Commission, and the Circular Economy is seen as a prerequisite for getting the EU on track. The Commissioners should be in place in November, so we are looking forward to seeing how they will take the lead in those crucial areas.
The ECESP’s Coordination Group met on 19 September, with co-chairs Ladeja Godina Košir and Freek van Eijk pleased to observe that the ECESP was viewed as a global player. In this spirit, the Platform will be involved in numerous exciting events and activities in the coming months – we will keep you posted!
Lastly, don't forget to have a look at the ECESP LinkedIn groups: the nine groups cover a wide range of issues from textiles to circular behaviour, so if you have views on the various dimensions of the Circular Economy, do get involved in the discussions!
