Circular Economy: Reverse Thinking

Under the motto "reverse thinking", the central role of industry, business, politics and science in implementing the circular economy will be discussed at the Handelsblatt Circular Economy conference. On 6-7 February 2024, the conference will bring together top thinkers, decision makers and experts who already have experience in implementing circular economy solutions. 

ESPP workshops on Nutrient recycling policy 

The European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform (ESPP) will hold on 12-14 March 2024 a series of workshops on Nutrient recycling policy. Taking place in Brussels and online, the workshops will aim at elaborating proposals for regulatory targets for phosphorus and nitrogen reuse-recycling from municipal wastewater and identifying policy tools to support market pull for recycled nutrients.

“The Road to Green”: a Euronews video on circular products 

The Road to Green is a Euronews magazine in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Environment (ENV). It features monthly 8-minute videos, delivered in a road trip format, covering Europe’s continuing transformation to a circular, net-zero, nature-positive and clean economy. In this episode of “The Road to Green”, Euronews explores the efforts made by consumers, businesses and policymakers to make sure products last longer and are more easily repairable. 

The Circularity Gap Report  

The Circularity Gap Report is the first study measuring the Circularity Gap of a city. The study assesses Munich’s material consumption, material cycling, consumption-based carbon footprint and other indicators. It uses a consumption-based carbon accounting approach for emissions from goods and services consumed by residents of a locality. 

The case for circular business models in the electronics industry 

The report explores the potential of circular business models within the electronics industry, examining three models across four industry segments and throughout six lifecycle stages. The data used in the analysis stems from diverse sources, such as research papers, public databases, internal benchmarking, collaboration with external/internal partners. 

Med4Waste best waste management practices 

This catalogue aims to provide waste management experts and decision makers in the Mediterranean region with an overview of successful practices, solutions and approaches in waste separation, collection, treatment and recycling in the Mediterranean. 

The EU’s circular material use rate rose slightly in 2022 

Data on circular material use rate published by Eurostat in November 2023 shows that the EU’s circular material use rate (referred to as 'the circularity rate' and referring to the share of material resources which came from recycled waste materials) reached 11.5% in 2022. This means that 11.5% of material resources used in the EU came from recycled waste materials. Compared with 2021, the circularity rate represents an increase by 0.1 percentage points (pp).
